TCP congestion control for wireless datacenters

چکیده
TCP is a low cost and easy-to-use transport layer protocol widely used in datacenter based applications and web services. Many TCP congestion control algorithms have been proposed to improve the performance of TCP in datacenter networks. However, the emerging wireless technologies in datacenter networks create new problems for TCP congestion control. On the one hand, TCP algorithms must suit the special application patterns (such as incast and Partition/ Aggregate) of the datacenters. On the other hand, TCP must perform well within the random packet losses caused by unreliable wireless links. Although there are many datacenter/wireless oriented TCP algorithms for either datacenter or wireless networks, designing a TCP algorithm that can meet both “datacenter” and “wireless” requirements of wireless datacenters still remains a great challenge. In this paper, a novel congestion control algorithm is proposed to improve the performance of TCP over wireless datacenter environments. The proposed approach combines an ACK-based wireless network bandwidth estimate with an ECN-based datacenter TCP congestion control that can perform well in both the datacenter environments and wireless links. The simulated experiments validate the performance of our proposed approach.

Mobile ad hoc network congestion control is a significant problem. Standard mechanism for congestion control (TCP), the ability to run certain features of a wireless network, several mutations are not common. In particular, the enormous changes in the network topology and the joint nature of the wireless network. It also creates significant challenges in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), density ...

The dynamic and instability of wireless links make congestion control an important research subject in wireless networks. It is important to define strategies that accurately evaluate the characteristics of the wireless links and what can be used by congestion control protocols. It is known that TCP experiences serious performance degradation problems in wireless networks. It has been showed th...
متن کاملDecoupling congestion control from TCP (semi-TCP) for multi-hop wireless networks
Although many problems for transmission control protocol (TCP) in multi-hop wireless networks have been studied with many proposals in the literature, they are not solved completely yet. Different from the existing proposals to mitigate the limitation of TCP in multi-hop wireless networks, we propose a framework of semi-TCP which decouples two functionalities of traditional TCP, i.e., congestio...
متن کاملCompound TCP+: A Solution for Compound TCP Unfairness in Wireless LAN
In high-speed and long-distance networks, TCP NewReno, the most popular version of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), cannot achieve sufficient throughput owing to the inherent nature of the congestion control mechanism of TCP. Therefore, in order to overcome this limitation, Compound TCP was proposed. Compound TCP can achieve a considerably higher throughput than TCP NewReno in high-speed an...
متن کاملTCP-Taichung: A RTT-Based Predictive Bandwidth Based with Optimal Shrink Factor for TCP Congestion Control in Heterogeneous Wired and Wireless Networks
TCP congestion control works well in wired Internet network but it is difficult to determine a good congestion window in a heterogeneous wireless network that consists of the wired Internet and various types of wireless networks. Therefore, we propose herein a novel adaptive window congestion control, namely TCP-Taichung, for TCP connections in heterogeneous wireless networks. The proposed RTT-...
